FALMOUTH SCHOOL'S ROBOTICS TEAM MAKES WAVES AT LEGO FIRST LEAGUE NATIONAL COMPETITION
Falmouth School proudly announces the remarkable achievements of its four young robotics enthusiasts at the recent Lego First League National Robotics competition held in Harrogate. The event, organized by the Institute of Engineering and sponsored by local industry stalwart Watson Marlow, showcased the talents of 75 teams from across England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
The Falmouth School girls' team, aptly named "Afonso Wins," showcased exemplary determination and ambition. Comprising Violet Allen, Molly Dallibar, Macey Carley, and Amelia Fleet, all in Year 8, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and ingenuity throughout the competition.
"We are immensely grateful for the continued support of our sponsor, Watson Marlow, whose unwavering commitment to STEM education enables us to compete on a national level," remarked Mrs. Warden. "It's through partnerships like these that we can nurture young talent and inspire the next generation of innovators."
Teaching Team Leader at Falmouth School Mr. Cilia, who has been instrumental in running the school's Lego Robotics club for the past three years, expressed his enthusiasm for fostering a culture of technological exploration among students. "The club is flourishing, and we're excited to expand our activities, including an upcoming Lego-themed activity week."
During the competition, the girls exhibited dedication and perseverance as they tackled three heats with their custom-designed robot, navigating intricate coding challenges and maneuvering across a complex game board within strict time constraints. Despite the intense pressure, the team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and collaboration, embodying the core values of the Lego First League.
In addition to the robotics challenges, teams were tasked with presenting an innovation project related to the theme of Maestro Masters. Falmouth School's ingenious concept of using augmented reality and cutting-edge technology to virtually decorate cakes captivated the judges, earning accolades for creativity and imagination.
Teacher of Design & Technology, Mrs. Warden commented, "While our team narrowly missed out on advancing to the global stage, the Falmouth students have nonetheless distinguished themselves as top-tier robotics experts in the UK. The students’ determination and resilience are truly commendable, and we're confident they will continue to excel in future competitions."
Looking ahead, Falmouth School is actively seeking support from the community to further enhance the team's coding capabilities. Local business with coding expertise are encouraged to lend their assistance in preparing for future competitions.
