Careers Vision for Falmouth School

At Falmouth School, our vision is to provide a transformational careers education that empowers every student to become a responsible, and ambitious decision-maker, while always fostering kindness towards their future selves.

We believe that careers education is not just about making informed choices—it’s about developing a mindset where students take ownership of their futures with ambition, responsibility, and self-care. By encouraging students to consider their long-term wellbeing, fulfilment, and success, we aim to instil the belief that the choices they make today will shape the opportunities available to them tomorrow.

Our careers strategy is fully aligned with the 2025 Gatsby Benchmarks and complies with the Baker Clause, ensuring that every student, regardless of background or ability, has access to the guidance, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Inclusion and Equity: Supporting Disadvantaged Students

We recognise that not all students start from the same place, which is why we are committed to closing the careers opportunity gap for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and other vulnerable groups.

To ensure every student can make career decisions with confidence and kindness towards their future selves, we will:

  • Prioritise targeted interventions, such as additional one-to-one career guidance, mentoring, and bespoke employer engagement.

  • Provide financial support for disadvantaged students to access career-related activities, including university visits, work experience placements, and employer networking events.

  • Engage parents and carers to build a shared culture of high aspiration and informed decision-making.

  • Ensure meaningful exposure to all pathways, including apprenticeships, technical qualifications, and university, so that every student can find the right fit for their ambitions and personal needs.

Preparing Students for the Future

Through a structured, progressive careers curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13, students will develop the resilience, skills, and self-awareness needed to build a future that is both ambitious and fulfilling.

We will nurture a generation of students who:
1) Take responsibility for their career choices, seeking opportunities that align with their skills and passions.
2) Aim high and embrace ambition, knowing that they have the potential to succeed in whatever path they choose.
3) Show kindness towards their future selves, making thoughtful, informed choices that lead to long-term success and personal wellbeing.

At Falmouth School, we believe that careers education is about more than just securing a job—it’s about helping students build a life they are proud of, where they can thrive both professionally and personally.
