Welcome to the Falmouth School English Team, where we are dedicated to nurturing independent and autonomous learners. Our mission is clear – to instill a genuine passion for English in our students, fostering a love for literature that transcends the classroom and extends into a lifelong journey of exploration.

In the realm of creativity, our department stands as a beacon, recognising that English is not just about the texts we engage with but also about how we teach our students to respond, think critically, and evolve in relation to them. We believe in cultivating creativity within our students, guiding them to become not only readers and writers but also thoughtful, adaptable individuals who can navigate a world rich with diverse perspectives.

Throughout all three key stages, we emphasise the development of creative and critical thinking skills. Our carefully crafted curriculum supports students in exploring a diverse array of novels, poems, plays, historical works, philosophical texts, and more. We aspire to broaden their intellectual horizons, encouraging a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom walls.

From Year 7 onwards, our students embark on a journey that we hope will extend into A-levels and beyond. While we aspire for academic excellence, our ultimate goal is to shape compassionate adults who reflect upon life’s experiences with exceptional empathy and humility.

As a core subject, English is intricately woven into the fabric of various academic disciplines. We understand the pivotal role of literacy skills in effective communication – skills that not only serve our students well within the school environment but also empower them to communicate effectively in their everyday lives.

Join us at the Falmouth School English Team, where we go beyond traditional education, aiming to create a community of learners who are not only academically adept but also compassionate, creative, and capable of making a positive impact on the world.
