Praise Points
Praise at Falmouth School fits within our three core values of kindness, responsibility, and ambition. When a student demonstrates actions worthy of praise, this is recognised by their teacher with a positive point on Class Charts under one of these categories. These contribute to weekly and termly rewards. Where students demonstrate exceptional kindness, responsibility or ambition, they are awarded with an 'Exceptional'. This is worth five points. As students accumulate exceptional points, they are sent postcards home to recognise this outstanding effort.
The Gold Star Standard
The Gold Star Standard is issued to students by their tutors during the morning greeting. Students
can achieve the Gold Star Standard for arriving at school wearing the correct uniform, for
being punctual and arriving at school and the greeting on time, and for bringing the correct
equipment to school. Students who meet the Gold Star Standard will be issued with three praise
points daily. Should students only meet two of the requirements, they will be issued with a Silver
Star Standard, and if they meet one of the requirements, they will be issued with a Bronze Star
Standard.
- Gold Star Standard= 3 praise points
- Silver star standard= 2 praise points
- Bronze star standard= 1 praise point
Every Friday morning during the greeting, the top ten students with the highest number of
praise points for that week (zero negative points for the week) are identified in every year
group and celebrated by Learning Leaders. Students are issued with a certificate to take
home, a ‘Jump the queue’ pass for the canteen to use at a time of their choice for the next
week, in addition to a treat from options provided at the canteen.
Every half-term concludes with a praise assembly, in which students who have achieved the highest numbers of positive points are recognised and rewarded. All students attend the praise assembly and are recognised for their collective successes of the term.
Once per term, parents and carers are invited to an evening event that celebrates the outstanding achievements of the term. This extends to students nominated for subject-specific prizes, as well as Learning Leaders' awards for each year group. Each student who is nominated for an award takes home a certificate and subject badge to wear on their blazer.
Students who complete the year without being issued any negative points are treated to
summer refreshment treat at the end of the summer term. Ice creams and fun games are
provided for students to enjoy for one session in the last week of term.
